Colocation and cloud infrastructure company
Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (Zayo) has won a webscale company as a new customer. Zayo, which has headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, United States, was established in 2007. The company bills itself as the “leading global provider of communications infrastructure” and offers services that include cloud infrastructure, colocation, fiber and bandwidth connectivity which it offers to companies around the world in areas that include finance, education, government, healthcare. The company also caters to wireless and wireline carriers. Zayo operates a network that is 128,200 miles in length and covers North America and Europe. The name of the company’s latest customer was not released.
Webscale IT refers to a type of computing that addresses data center infrastructure design, build and management to offer businesses the capabilities of large cloud service providers. It focuses on scale in terms of speed and agility rather that size. Google, Amazon, and Facebook represent companies that adhere to this approach. Zayo’s latest customer will benefit from services provided by its data center in McLean, Virginia, United States.
Zayo’s zColo brand operates over 50 data centers in the United States and Europe, each of which offers colocation solutions. Zayo has two centers in Northern Virginia. The McLean, Virginia center offers 62,000 square feet of floor space. It is connected to Zayo’s data center facility in Ashburn. “This Northern Virginia location is especially attractive to webscale companies, government agencies, cloud providers and other large enterprises,” explained Zayo’s Chief Customer Officer, Phil Mottram in a press release. “We are achieving rapid monetization of this asset and have strong interest from other organizations in multiple sectors, including a financial services provider and an R&D lab.”
