Colocation Provider Carrier-1 Saves Digital File Cabinet Provider YellowFolder “Nearly a Million Dollars in Service Costs”
Colocation provider Carrier-1 Data Centers (Carrier-1) has saved SaaS-based digital records storage provider YellowFolder “nearly a million dollars in service costs”. YellowFolder, which has headquarters in Carrollton, Texas, United States, provides cloud-based services that enable schools to store, retrieve and manage all manner of records, including administrative and student records. The YellowFolder system targets K-12 schools with FERPA and HIPAA-compliant services. The company transitioned from a virtual cloud-based storage solution to Carrier-1’s colocation.

Carrier-1, which has offices in Dallas, Texas, has customers that include Verio, The Planet Internet Services, CoreXchange and Zayo Group. The company offers a range of data center services including data center development, wholesale colocation, and data center management with. It owns and operates data centers in North America, including a 106,866 square foot facility in Dallas, Texas.

Carrier-1 prides itself on offering “premium colocation space” which is available at “wholesale rates” and underpinned by a genuine 100% uptime guarantee on its PCI, HIPPA and SOX-complaint offerings. Alongside saving YellowFolder close to a million dollars per year, Carrier-1’s colocation solution offers “additional control on a private server architecture, adherence to compliance standards and hands-on access”.

“We outgrew the cloud,” explained the CTO of YellowFolder, Ryan Bell. “In the beginning, it was a fast and cost-efficient way to get started. However, we grew quickly and with all of our data storage requirements, the cost became a burden. Our colocation solution with Carrier-1 saves us more than $80,000 per month. The colocation solution did require us to purchase our own hardware. We will quickly recoup this capital expense within the first year of our long-term colocation solution.”

“We help our clients achieve their goals, whether it is cost savings or a higher-level of control and security,” explained Peter Pathos, the CEO of Carrier-1. “For YellowFolder, we know that our core environmental systems, network redundancies, operational efficiencies, local support and security protocols were important features to help them meet their goals—a more secure and reliable document storage solution for school districts.”
