Consulting and Technology Services Company Accenture Wins UK NHS Email Contract
Consulting and technology services company Accenture has won a 5-year contract to provide the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom with a cloud-based email solution. The company, which has headquarters in the Dublin, Republic of Ireland, provides a complete range of services from consulting to solution implementation. It has appeared 13 times on Fortune’s “World’s Most Admired Companies” list.

Accenture will upgrade “NHSmail” (the NHS’ email system) for the Department of Health in England and NHS National Services in Scotland. The upgrade will be based on Microsoft Exchange 2013 and include Lync collaboration alongside an “enterprise-wide” directory. It will also offer instant messaging, VOIP and audio/visual communication apps. The entire system will be underpinned by Avanade's unified communications and collaboration managed service.

"Almost 700,000 doctors, clinicians and other health and care employees already use NHSmail to communicate securely," explained Accenture's UK Health Business’ Managing Director Aimie Chapple. "The new improved NHSmail service will provide significant digital technology improvements to help NHS staff drive even more effective collaboration at all points of patient care. This will be one of the largest mailbox migrations ever delivered and will bring significant benefits to the way NHS employees exchange information, communicate and interact across healthcare."
