Salesforce.com (Salesforce) and online file sharing and content management service Box Inc. (Box) have formed a partnership. The move will help the two companies collaborate and make “both businesses and developers more productive”.
Salesforce, which has headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, was established in 1999. Alongside CRM solutions, Salesforce offers a range of applications and cloud computing solutions. The company has a value of around $50 billion. Box, which has headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States, was established in 2005. The company offers “freemium” accounts providing 10 GB of free cloud-based storage. Its services are accessible through PCs and mobile devices. Together the two companies aim to “improve enterprise productivity in the cloud”.
The Box Platform represents a “set of APIs for authentication, user management and access to content”. The new Box SDK for Salesforce enables developers to use Box content management apps built on the Salesforce App Cloud. Sharing permissions are managed by Box so those sharing files through Salesforce must be authorized by Box to view them.
"With Salesforce Files Connect for Box, files are available in context, exactly where they are needed - attached to an opportunity, a marketing campaign, a case or any object", explained Salesforce’s Executive Vice President of Community Cloud, Nasi Jazayeri. "Solutions from Box and Salesforce are helping enterprises move to the cloud, scale their business, and deepen their relationships with customers, partners and developers," added Box’s CEO and Co-founder, Aaron Levie.
