Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform
Salesforce and Chinese cloud and e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. (Alibaba) have formed a partnership. Salesforce, which has headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, was established in 1999 and was one of the first companies to offer a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model for its offerings. The company bills itself as a ‘Customer Success Platform’ and aside from its flagship CRM offering, also offers a number of cloud-based solutions. These include ‘Salesforce Einstein’, a business analytics solution; the ‘Salesforce Marketing Cloud’; the ‘Salesforce Commerce Cloud’; and the ‘Salesforce Integration Cloud’. Its partnership with Alibaba will allow the company to expand its footprint to mainland China.
Alibaba has headquarters in Hangzhou, China and was established in 1999. The group’s broad range of activities include China’s largest online shopping solution and Alibaba Cloud - known inside China as ‘Aliyun’. Like its competitors AWS, Microsoft, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Alibaba’s cloud offerings include compute, storage, and ‘Big Data’ packages. The partnership will see Alibaba provide Salesforce in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It will also sell Salesforce as its primary enterprise CRM suite. Alibaba will also guide Salesforce through China’s strict data security laws which force companies doing business in the country to store data within its borders.
“Together, Salesforce and Alibaba will bring Salesforce’s #1 CRM platform — including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Commerce Cloud, and Salesforce Platform — to customers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan,” explained Salesforce’s blog. “Alibaba’s advanced, secure infrastructure and knowledge of these markets will empower our global customers with a solution that meets local business needs. We look forward to developing this partnership with Alibaba as we continue to drive success for companies around the world”.
