Custom Hosting Solutions Provider NetHosting Offers Updates and Patches to Protect Customers Against Shellshock Hack
Custom hosting solutions provider NetHosting is offering a series of updates and patches to protect customers against the recent "Shellshock" (or "Bashdoor") hack. NetHosting has been in operation for around 15 years. It caters to a broad global customer base which includes businesses of all sizes with options such as cloud hosting and storage alongside dedicated, managed, and virtual hosting services. The company has taken the measure because the bulk of its customers utilize Unix-based operating systems.

Shellshock was discovered by Stéphane Chazelas on 12 September 2014 and was embargoed until 24 September 2014 to ensure that security updates were available for most systems when the details of the hack were released. It threatens systems utilizing Linux, Mac OS, and other Unix-based operating systems. The threat impacts the "Bash shell" - a command line interface that allows hacker full control of a system, including the ability to secretly run commands and install programs.

“Shellshock is the most serious threat to our OS security since the Heartbleed hack, which occurred back in April," explained NetHosting's CEO, Lane Livingston. "We’ve made the appropriate updates and patches for our virtual hosting customers, but for those dedicated and cloud customers whose systems we don’t manage, the situation is different. We’re are making immediate efforts to spread awareness of the issue and offer our support for those who are unable to address the vulnerability issue themselves”.
