Data center company Equinix, Inc. (
Equinix) has completed its acquisition of Australian data center specialists Metronode. Equinix has headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States. The company offers a suite of internet services that include cloud options and other enterprise solutions through an extensive network of ‘carrier-neutral’ data centers. Its acquisition of Metronode makes Equinix a “market leader in Australia”.
Metronode has headquarters in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 2002 the company has ten ISO27001:2013, ISO14001:2014, and Uptime Institue Tier III-certified facilities across Australia (in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Wollongong). Its data centers are recognized as having NABERS ratings of 4.5. The acquisition gives Equinix a presence in four additional Australian markets – Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth.
The deal takes place against a backdrop of a healthy digital transformation market in Australia - research by Microsoft and IDC1 forecasts digital transformation activity could add around $35 billion to the country’s GDP by 2021. The cost of the deal is reported to be in the region of $800 million. 60 Metronode employees will be absorbed by Equinix.
