Equinix is to buy Spanish data center services provider Itconic. Equinix, which has headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States, was established in 1998. Holding Microsoft Gold Cloud Platform status, the company offers a wide range of services such as enterprise and cloud solutions through an extensive network of ‘carrier-neutral’ data centers, including its ‘AM4’ center located at Equinix’s Science Park campus in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The deal has reportedly cost €215 million ($257 million).
Itconic, which has headquarters in Madrid, Alcobendas, Spain, operates in Spain and Portugal and specializes in data center and cloud infrastructure management. Established in 2000, the company offers a range of managed services that leverage its customers’ private, hybrid or public cloud platforms. The company also operates a major network of “Neutral Data Centres” with five centres “interconnected and distributed between Spain and Portugal”. It generated $67 million in the second quarter of this year. The acquisition is expected to be formalized in the fourth quarter and includes Itconic’s cloud migration subsidiary CloudMas.
“The acquisition of Itconic will further strengthen Equinix's position in Europe and will extend its footprint into two new countries within the region,” explained an announcement on Equinix’s website. “The acquisition will include five data centers in four metros, with two located in Madrid, one in Barcelona, one in Seville, and one in Lisbon, and adds approximately 322,000 gross square feet to the Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center portfolio. In addition, the CloudMas business brings a highly experienced team of technology professionals with deep expertise in hybrid cloud architectures and cloud adoption and migration strategies”.
