Q9 Networks Inc. (Q9) has increased capacity at its Calgary facility, the third in a series of planned expansions. In excess of 40 per cent of the additional data center capacity has already been sold, and a fourth expansion is currently in progress.
Owned by an investor group which includes Canada's largest communication company, BCE Inc., Q9 is Canada's leading outsourced data center infrastructure provider. The company caters to a range of customers with mission-critical IT operations. These include Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Providence Equity Partners and Madison Dearborn Partners LLC. Its services include co-location, dedicated servers, firewalls, load balancing, and virtual private networking, amongst others.
Q9's Calgary facility is the largest commercial data center in Western Canada offering 250,000 square feet of space, with over 100,000 square feet currently operational. The company has invested $425 million in its network of centers, with $190 million invested in Western Canada. Its Calgary data center facilities are networked with its British Columbia data centers, offering customers a number of options for business continuity through a variety of Q9 centers.
Q9's Calgary expansion incorporates a range of features such as outside air cooling capability, multiple Internet connections, biometric security, redundant power and cooling, and detection and suppression systems designed to manage fire outbreaks.
