Data Center Company QTS Opens Mega Facility
Data center company QTS Realty Trust (QTS) has opened a mega facility in central Chicago, Illinois, United States. QTS has corporate headquarters in Kansas, United States and specializes in “flexible, scalable, secure IT solutions for web and IT applications”. The company’s range of options extends to colocation, cloud, hybrid cloud and fully managed services. It has 24 data centers and caters to around 1,000 customers around the world. The new facility is a response to “increasing demand for integrated IT solutions and mission critical data center capacity” in Chicago and it was officially opened yesterday (July 15, 2016) by Chicago’s Deputy Mayor, Steve Koch.

The new 317,000 square foot facility has been built in the Chicago Sun-Times, an iconic facility which housed the Chicago Sun-Times daily newspaper. It will provide a mid-west hub for services that target businesses and government bodies.

“This data center is restoring an iconic building and giving it a 21st-century purpose,” suggested Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “Chicago is a global hub for innovation and technology, and this QTS data center will help the city build on that reputation for years to come. Welcome to Chicago!”

“We thank Mayor Emanuel, World Business Chicago and the Chicago community for the support they have shown,” suggested QTS’ CEO and Chairman Chad Williams. “QTS Chicago is a significant addition to our platform and we are pleased by the early and positive response from both local Chicago businesses, as well as national enterprises who are interested in the city’s central location within the country.”
