Data Center Services Provider Equinix and Alibaba's Cloud Division Aliyun Form Partnership
In a move that is expected to hasten the adoption of the cloud in the Pacific region, data center services provider Equinix and Alibaba's cloud division Aliyun have formed a partnership. The two companies will cooperate on dedicated cloud services. The arrangement between the two companies will see Equinix offering its services to customers in China and elsewhere in the region, and Aliyun offering services in the United States.

The partnership will give companies in China and the USA “dedicated and secure access to the full suite of Aliyun's cloud services”. It will mean that Aliyun's cloud platform will be available through Equinix centers in California, USA and Hong Kong (both part of the Equinix Cloud Exchange - an “advanced interconnection solution that enables seamless, on-demand, direct access to multiple clouds”).

Equinix, which has headquarters in Redwood City, California, USA, caters to over 1,000 cloud providers with high-speed interconnection points that connect private infrastructure with the public cloud. The company’s services leverage a range of clouds, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Rackspace, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud. Aliyun provides services to 23% IaaS customers in China – that’s around 1.4 million customers in total.
