Data Center Solutions Provider MainOne and Data Center Supplier Minkels to Expand African Data Center Project
Data center solutions provider MainOne and data center supplier Minkels has announced plans for the expansion of an African data center project. MainOne, which has headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, was established in 2007. The company bills itself as “West Africa’s Internet backbone” and operates an ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and PCI DSS certified Tier III certified data center which is an ‘SAP Infrastructure Hosting Partner’. The company has a presence in five regional locations and owns a private 7,000 kilometer-long submarine cable connection that runs from Europe down the West African coast. It offers wholesale internet and enterprise services alongside business cloud solutions and managed data offerings. Together MainOne and Minkels “constructed West Africa’s largest Tier III+ Data center company (MDXi) in 2015”. They have announced Phase Two of the project.

Minkels, a Legrand company, has headquarters in Veghel, Netherlands. With a presence in Belgium, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, the company’s total solutions for data center infrastructure make it one of Europe’s leading providers. Its product portfolio includes its proprietary VariCondition, Varicon, VariconPower and VariControl solutions. Minkels’ customer base includes leading data center company Equinix. MainOne data center, MDXi, will be expanded and the company also plans to build new data centers in Sagamu, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana and Abidjan, and Cote D’Ivoire. MainOne’s Lekki Data Center in Lagos, Nigeria will also be expanded.

“Given the size of its markets and status as home of some of Africa’s biggest economies, West Africa has a vantage opportunity to scale up infrastructure deployment to support digital transformation,” explained MainOne’s Chief Executive Officer Ms. Funke Opeke. “Targeted investments in the region will bridge the gap in digital infrastructure and address the increasing reliance on data storage.”
