Datapipe Number 8 in EPA Tech & Telecom Green Power Users List
October 24, 2012 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Underscoring its commitment to renewable energy alternatives, New Jersey web hosting provider Datapipe has ranked number 8 in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA's) "Top 20 Tech & Telecom Largest Green Power Users List", it was reported recently. The company, a "global provider of managed services and infrastructure for outsourced IT and cloud computing", has an annual consumption of around 74 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power - enough to cater for its entire electricity usage.

"Green power" is electricity generated from a range of environmentally friendly options including low-impact hydro, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and wind and solar energy, each of which increase the US power sector’s renewable energy capacity and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To manage its renewable energy needs Datapipe utilizes a solar energy system and purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from retail energy suppliers Noble Americas Energy Solutions and Constellation NewEnergy. Its continued commitment to renewable energy qualifies the company for the EPA’s "Green Power Leadership Club" of organizations that "significantly exceed" the EPA’s minimum usage requirements.

"In 2010, Datapipe initiated the use of 100 percent green power in a single data center facility, with an annual reduction of 8.5 million pounds of carbon emissions," suggested Datapipe’s Chief Executive Officer, Robb Allen. "Today, all of our U.S. facilities utilize sustainable electricity, with a total annual reduction of over 112 million pounds of carbon emissions – equivalent to the annual electricity use of over 6,300 homes. Datapipe is committed to the continued support of long-term sustainability."

"With its continued purchase of 100 percent green power, Datapipe is demonstrating its commitment to environmentally friendly business practices," suggested the EPA's Green Power Partnership’s Director, Blaine Collison. “Datapipe is reducing carbon pollution and showing that using green power is smart for the environment and for business.”

Datapipe’s commitment to conservation is evident at its datacenters where the company operates a “99% efficient Universal Power Source Energy Saver System” alongside an Econo Cooling Configuration which saves 55% of power usage by optimizing its Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units. The company is also involved in initiatives such as incentives for staff to use public transport, a waste reduction and recycling program, and paperless billing.
