July 6, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Web hosting providers may be interested in Deerfields new DNS2Go 3.0, the next major release of the companys dynamic DNS service. Coincident with the release of new DNS2Go client software, the company also launched a retooled online DNS2Go Account Manager and introduced additional licensing options.
The most notable change in the service allows users to establish custom DNS and custom MX records. This oft-demanded feature will benefit customers in several configuration environments. For example, users who wish to host their own email, but outsource website or application hosting for their domain, can establish a custom DNS record to direct all requests for their website or application to the contracted third party. All email destined for the domain will be directed to the customers mail server at their own public-facing IP address.
In the reverse situation, where users wish to host their own web or application server but outsource email, creation of a custom MX record will work in the same manner. Use of custom MX records allow users to redirect email only to a third party host while continuing to receive all other requests for their domain directly.
The DNS2Go customer base is comprised largely of power users and small to medium sized businesses, said Mike Deerfield, Chief Executive Officer of Deerfield.com. Running multiple servers in-house, across multiple branch locations and via third party server-hosting companies is characteristic of both types of user. Deerfield explained. The new level of customization in DNS2Go is in direct response to the needs of this audience, Deerfield continued. Additionally, we have added multiple domain group functionality, enabling customers with multiple domain accounts to group their domainsin one or more groupsfor simple, streamlined resolution and management.
With the release of DNS2Go 3.0, Deerfield.com also launched a retooled online DNS2Go Account Manager. Accessible from any web browser, the DNS2Go Account Manager now features an easy-to-use dashboard for quick access to domain and account settings. From this centralized console, users are able to take domains online or offline, manage domain groups and access custom DNS options, web settings and email options.
From its inception, we have offered DNS2Go as the answer to a common technical problem at an affordable price, said Deerfield. By offering users more powerful, more granular control of their domains across multiple locations and applications without the need for costly static IP addresses, we continue that tradition. Today, we remain the competitive choice in reliability, functionality and price.
