Adobe has acquired ecommerce platform Magento. Adobe, which has headquarters in San Jose, California, United States, was established in 1982. The company is globally recognized for software like image editing and compositing solution Photoshop and desktop publishing tool Illustrator. Both are now part of the Adobe Creative Cloud, a suite of solutions that are available as downloads directly from the cloud. The company reportedly acquired Magento for $1.68 billion.
Magento is an Open Source ecommerce Content Management System (CMS) that is available free of charge as a download from the Internet. It can be used for simple or highly sophisticated ‘online store’ websites that can integrate “digital and physical shopping experiences”. The solution also boasts a suite of “cloud-based omnichannel solutions including in-store, retail associate, and order management technologies”.
As with other Open Source technologies, Magento enjoys the support of a global community that develops modules and themes to enhance its functionality and look. However, an ‘at cost’ commercial ‘managed cloud’ version of the solution is also available with additional features like a loyalty program management feature. Adobe’s acquisition of Magento will be completed in Q3 2018. Adobe’s plans for the solution will be made public is it prepares to complete the deal.

He added, “As a Magento team, we’ve made tremendous progress in helping companies realize their commerce visions and become leaders in their industries. But together, we’re making a giant step forward in taking that vision even further”.
