Domain Registrar Namecheap Offers Free Lifetime ‘Whois’ Protection
Domain registrar Namecheap, Inc. (Namecheap) is offering customers free lifetime ‘Whois’ protection. Namecheap has headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, United States and offers a range of domain and hosting-related services, including its proprietary EasyWP managed WordPress hosting options. Established in 2001, the company’s services also extend to website building tools and SSL certificates. ‘Whois’ privacy is generally a service most domain registrars charge extra for. However, Namecheap’s ‘WhoisGuard’ is “free forever with almost all domain registrations or renewals”.

Registered domain name users have their details exposed to anyone who might wish to know who is behind a specific website. These details can include address and telephone number. Many domain providers charge customers extra to have these details masked and not available to the general public. With Namecheap’s WhoisGuard, personal details are “blocked from appearing in public records and listings” in the same way paid services operate. WhoisGuard is not though available for TLDs that do not support the privacy feature.

“At Namecheap we respect everyone’s right to keep their personal information protected, and it is our strong belief that online privacy should be universal and equally available for all Internet users, ” explained the CEO of Namecheap, Richard Kirkendall. “That’s why we decided to make WhoisGuard privacy protection free forever for our customers.”

Namecheap’s top-level domains start at only $0.48 per year, while its web hosting is available starting at $2.88 per month. SSL certificates cost only $8.88 a year.
