EvoSwitch Data Center Acquires Direct Connection with AMS-IX

July 11, 2009
July 11, 2009 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – EvoSwitch, the Dutch carrier neutral data center whose operations are fully CO2 neutral, has reached an agreement with AMS-IX in Amsterdam, one of the world’s largest Internet exchanges. The partnership allows EvoSwitch to offer its customers a direct connection to AMS-IX.

The EvoSwitch data center will be AMS-IX’s 15th partner organization. AMS-IX facilitates the exchange of Internet traffic by, inter alia, telecom carriers, e-businesses, hosting providers, Internet professionals, banks, insurance companies, and other parties that handle a lot of Internet traffic. This is done by so-called “peering”. Peering is less costly than buying transit traffic from telecom carriers and allows for more flexibility and redundancy when setting up and controlling Internet traffic within and between networks.

Colocation
“Normally customers who opt for AMS-IX’s services must come to us themselves,” explains Cara Mascini, Marketing Manager at AMS-IX. “That may be a complex process for customers who also set up their equipment at a data center for colocation. The partnership allows EvoSwitch to handle the connection with AMS-IX for customers. In other words, customers can ask EvoSwitch to connect them to AMS-IX. As a result customers receive a one stop shop offer from EvoSwitch, which includes the Internet exchange.

AMS-IX expects that hosting focused parties who require a lot of data center space in particular will benefit from the collaboration with EvoSwitch. “EvoSwitch is a professional and secure data center with a lot of space and expansion options,” adds Mascini. “The partnership represents an excellent development for parties that want to combine the growth potential at the data center with a connection to AMS-IX.”

Tier3+ Data Center
AMS-IX sets high standards for partners that want to sell connections with the Internet junction, for instance in relation to setting up the procedures. “In addition our data centers must comply with the specifications formulated, among other things, by the Uptime Institute and the Telecoms Industry Association (TIA),” says Mascini. “Although we do not install equipment at EvoSwitch, they, too, comply with the majority of these conditions. It is clearly a Tier3+ data center, which is important to customers.”

Energy Saving Colocation
AMS-IX is very pleased with EvoSwitch's “green” nature. “A lot of thought has gone into the green concept of EvoSwitch,” explains Mascini. “The data center is ecologically sound where it concerns the technology, for instance by using energy saving cooling methods. Moreover, the associated aspects have also been set up in an environmentally friendly way, such as the use of green energy, energy saving cars and lighting, and the planting of trees to compensate for any remaining CO2 emission.”

Eric Boonstra, the Commercial Director at EvoSwitch, is very pleased with the new partnership with AMS-IX. “AMS-IX is important to us and our customers. It is the biggest Internet junction in Europe and encourages many customers to opt for EvoSwitch, not least because EvoSwitch is close to AMS-IX and has a large floor surface available for colocation purposes. Our partnership with AMS-IX allows us to provide our customers with peering options quickly and efficiently.”
