Facebook Outage Prompts 911 Calls
The second Facebook outage in 2 months prompted a number of 911 emergency calls to the County sheriff's office in Los Angeles. The outage was reported in the early hours of 1 August 2014 and prompted this message on the Facebook Developer's Portal:

"Facebook is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces. Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We'll update shortly."

Despite being down for a mere 19 minutes, this was enough to disturb some Facebook users to the extent that they called the police, forcing Sheriff's Sgt. Burton Brink of the Crescenta Valley police station in the USA to send the following Tweet:

"#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!"

The last Facebook outage was in June 2014. Combined, the two incidents are thought to have cost Facebook over a million dollars in revenue.
