Financial Holding Company Capital One Chooses Cloud Giant AWS as Main Cloud Infrastructure Provider
Financial holding company Capital One as chosen cloud giant Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) as its main cloud infrastructure provider. Capital One, which has headquarters in McLean, Virginia, United States, is a Fortune 500 company and is included in the S&P 100 index. The company offers a “broad spectrum of financial products and services to consumers, small businesses and commercial clients” through subsidiaries that include Capital One, N.A., and Capital One Bank (USA), N.A. Its agreement with AWS sees the cloud provider offer Capital One services for the next five years.

Part of Amazon and with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States, AWS is the world’s leading cloud services provider. It offers “70 fully featured services for compute, storage, databases, analytics, mobile, Internet of Things (IoT) and enterprise applications” with global coverage that includes 38 “Availability Zones” (AZs) worldwide. Capital One will migrate the bulk of its business and customer applications to AWS.

“Technology is going to play a central role in the future of banking as we move toward an experience that is real-time, digital-first, and that anticipates customer needs,” explained Capital One’s CIO Rob Alexander. “The AWS Cloud enables fast, efficient development and deployment of software and allows our teams to focus on what we do best – building great software and delivering innovative experiences to our customers. We’re taking a cloud-first approach to development with AWS as our predominant cloud infrastructure provider.”
