Forrester Research, Inc.’s “The Forrester Wave” report has named networking and SaaS solutions provider
Citrix as a server-hosted Virtual Desktops (VDI) leader for the third quarter of 2015. The news comes on the heels of Kimberly Martin, formerly of Datameer, being appointed Citrix’s worldwide channel chief.
Citrix, which bills itself as “leading the transition to software-defining the workplace, uniting virtualization, mobility management, networking and SaaS solutions”, has headquarters in Santa Clara, California USA. Its offerings focus on providing secure, mobile workspaces for businesses and its solutions are utilized by around 100 million users employed in 400,000 organizations globally. The company was the highest scoring of the vendors in Forrester’s “Strategy” and “Current Offering” categories.
The Forrester Wave report considered seven vendors “based on 26 criteria, including current offering, strategy and market presence”. The report noted Citrix’s XenDesktop VDI solution for its user experience. It also mentioned Citrix Receiver endpoint clients that offer “native HDX protocol support on all device and OS platforms to rich 3D graphics and multiple 4K monitor support and sophisticated features for multimedia and videoconferencing performance.”
The report gave Citrix high scores for offering FIPS 140-2 compliance, an encryption standard that Federal government agencies require. It also notes that XenDesktop offers secure mobile virtual Windows desktops through any device and that its offers a “hybrid cloud-ready” platform that “separates the management plane from the workload”.
