Gartner: Public Cloud Market in India to Reach $443 Million in 2013
Technology research giant Gartner has predicted the public cloud market in India will expand by 36% in 2013, giving the sector a value of $443 million, up from $326 million in 2012. Gartner's report considered a number of elements of the market and projected increased demand for all manner of cloud services, with especially encouraging results for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

Gartner's report suggests that IaaS was the fastest- growing area in the Public Cloud market in 2012, and this trend is likely to increase in 2013. The area grew 22.7% last year and garnered a value $43.1 million. It is expected to grow an additional 39.6% this year, increasing its value to $60.2 million. SaaS was the largest segment of the Indian cloud services market at 36%. Gartner projects that between 2013 and 2017 a total of $4.2 billion will spent on the cloud in India, with $1.6 billion of that amount spent entirely on SaaS.

Beyond IaaS and SaaS, the Cloud Business Process Services segment (BPaaS) represented 23% of the market in 2012, while Cloud Infrastructure Services represented 23%, Cloud Management and Security Services 11%, and Platform as a Service (PaaS) only 5%.

The report also suggested that markets like Asia Pacific (with the exception of China), Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa represented the smallest component of the global market, but grew the fastest. North America, Western Europe, and Japan experienced slower growth, but represented the bulk of the market.

"The continued growth of the cloud services market will result from the adoption of cloud services for production systems and workloads, in addition to the development and testing scenarios that have led as the most prominent use case for public cloud services to date," explained Ed Anderson, Director of Gartner Research.
