German Tech Company Siemens and Cloud Giant Alibaba Cloud Form Partnership
German technology company Siemens AG (Siemens) and cloud giant Alibaba Cloud have formed a partnership. Siemens, which has headquarters in Munich, Germany, is a globally recognized brand that has been operating since 1847. The company has eight divisions and is involved in a number of industries including technology, engineering, and manufacturing. It also operates separate healthcare and wind power businesses. Together with Alibaba Cloud, Siemens will work on ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) activity in China.

Alibaba Cloud (locally known as ‘Aliyun’) was established in 2009 and is the cloud computing arm of the Alibaba Group. The company has headquarters in Singapore and caters to around 2.5 million customers, offering a range of scalable cloud options. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place in Berlin, Germany and was witnessed by Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

The two companies will build on each other’s strengths to “unlock the potential of the Industrial Internet of Things with MindSphere” - Siemens’ cloud-based, open IoT operating system. MindSphere wll be implemented by Alibaba Cloud to provide advanced industrial solutions for enterprises in mainland China

“Today’s landmark partnership marks an exciting step towards Alibaba Cloud’s goal to enable digital transformation across the globe,” explained Simon Hu, the President of Alibaba Cloud. “We are delighted to partner with Siemens and together we hope to accelerate the adoption of IoT products and services that will create industry-wide breakthroughs and progress,” he added.
