Global Brand Toshiba Chooses Kii Cloud for IoT Development
Global brand Toshiba has chosen Kii to support its Internet of Things (IoT) development. Toshiba, which has headquarters in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, is a household name in many countries where it offers a range of products and services including household goods and computer hardware. The company has chosen Kii as its “preferred platform partner” for the development of wearable technology in the form of health trackers such as the Silmee W Series, Actiband, and Silmee Healthcare mobile app.

Kii bills itself as a leading Internet of Things (IoT) cloud platform provider. The company offers a wide range of services including a fully managed platform for apps and smart devices. Toshiba’s latest devices have enhanced functionality (including monitoring sleep quality) and target medical professionals and those involved in the care of the elderly. They measure skin temperature and pulse, and also offer a GPS tracking functionality. Toshiba decided to use Kii’s platform instead of its own as a cost and time saving measure.

“Toshiba was able to develop products very quickly and without the need to build or manage its own servers, effectively using Kii as their full IoT back-end,” suggested Kii’s CEO, Masanari Arai. “Our goal is to balance scalability and function, something that is often hard to achieve. We want to make life easy for app developers and manufacturers like Toshiba to develop a smart device that meets a market need, but requires the scalability and functionality to make it commercially viable. We look forward to working with Toshiba and supporting its roll out of these devices and others in the future.”
