The Global Cloud Influence League Table suggests that
IBM is now the second most influential cloud company, ranking higher than Amazon and Apple. According to the table, IBM was in sixth place in the table in January, and second place last month. The news was announced by Compare the Cloud.
According to Compare the Cloud, IBM's move to second place was based on its recent $4 billion investment and plans to generate greater revenue from cloud computing activity ($40 billion by 2018): "IBM leapt to second place in the rankings following the announcement of a $4bn (£2.6bn) investment with which IBM says it plans to increase revenue from growing areas such as cloud computing to $40bn by 2018" suggested the Compare the Cloud blog.
While Microsoft have been consistently placed at the top of the table, HP did not make the list. According to Compare the Cloud, "HP, after having wasted billions on acquisitions such as Autonomy, EDS, 3Com and Palm trying to buy growth, have no real cloud revenue to speak of – even their recent deal with Deutsche Bank could hardly be seen as cloud".
