Global Hyper-scale Cloud Provider OVH Acquires VMware's vCloud Air Activity
Global hyper-scale cloud provider OVH has acquired VMware's ‘vCloud Air’ business activity. With headquarters in Roubaix, France, OVH is a “a major player in the European cloud market”. Alongside cloud-based offerings its services include web hosting, domain name registration, dedicated servers and Virtual Private Server (VPS) solutions. Established in 1999, the company caters to 1 million customers globally through 20 data centers located in Europe and North America, each connected by a 10 Tbps dark fibre network. OVH’s acquisition means vCloud Air customers will benefit from “higher network performance and increased workload mobility” through OVH's global network.

vCloud Air facilitates cloud solutions through ‘software-driven’ data centers and is designed to provide a secure hybrid cloud experience. OVH will absorb all of VMware's ‘vCloud Air’ business, including related data centers, customer operations, and its support teams. vCloud Air will operate semi-autominously as ‘vCloud Air Powered by OVH’. OVH will also remain a VMware partner providing customer support for vCloud Air data center extension, data center consolidation, and data center recovery services.

Managing 260,000 servers and with around one million customers globally, OVH is a “long-time VMware vCloud Air Network partner” and was previously awarded the distinction of VMware's ‘Service Provider of the Year’ on a number of occasions. The acquisition gives vCloud Air customers additional choice of vCloud Air data centers. The transaction is expected to be completed in Europe by July 2017.

"vCloud Air customers can expect a seamless transition to OVH with high-touch customer support and increased access to OVH's global network and modern, highly-automated green data centers," explained OVH US’ President and CEO, Russell P. Reeder. "OVH is proud to welcome the sales, support, account management, and infrastructure operations teams from vCloud Air to the OVH family. We're inspired by the ongoing conversations we've had with vCloud Air customers across the globe and look forward to delivering valuable innovation to solve their rapidly evolving business needs."
