Global Interconnection and Data Center Company Equinix, Inc. to Take Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute to 16 Markets
Global interconnection and data center company Equinix, Inc. is taking Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute to 16 global markets. The company has partnered with Microsoft to become the first data center provider to offer the solution on a global basis, enabling customers in Equinix IBX data centers located in North America, South America, Asia, Europe and Australia to access the solution. A preview of the solution is also available through Equinix London data center (LD5).

ExpressRoute will be made available in Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America during 2014. The solution helps companies improve performance, reliability and scalability by connecting on-premise IT capability and public cloud options. It provides reliable, lower-latency connections between Microsoft Azure and customer data centers, allowing businesses to establish hybrid cloud environments. As ExpressRoute connections are not over public clouds, they are safer than standard connections.

Through the partnership, Microsoft is leveraging Equinix data centers and access to over 975 networks, 450 cloud and 600 IT service providers, and the company’s 4,500 global customer base.

"Enterprises are drawn to hybrid cloud to benefit from cloud computing efficiencies, while maximizing their existing infrastructure, explained Microsoft Azure’s General Manager, Steven Martin. “With 57% of Fortune 500 companies already using Microsoft Azure combined with Equinix’s global data center footprint, we look forward to working together to help customers bridge their cloud and on-premises technology to build hybrid environments with enterprise-grade control and reliability."

"We are witnessing a significant shift in how enterprises operate as they adopt hybrid cloud, and they are looking to effectively address performance and security concerns often associated with the cloud, while still benefiting from the flexibility it provides,” added Equinix’s Vice President, Cloud Innovation, Chris Sharp. “By expanding our partnership with Microsoft, we are able to offer our customers a secure, flexible and reliable connection to the Microsoft Azure cloud in 16 strategic markets around the world. Only Equinix’s global data center footprint can provide enterprises this scale and reach with Microsoft."
