Google Cloud COO Diane Bryant Leaves Company
Google Cloud’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Diane Bryant has left the company. Her departure comes only a few months after her taking the position in a move from Intel. She joined Google last December after a 32-year career at the chip giant. Her last role at Intel was in charge of the company’s data center activity. There has been no announcement regarding her reasons for leaving Google Cloud.

Ms. Bryant’s departure from Intel in May of last year was as a result of “family matters” and it was initially announced as being temporary, with Intel suggesting she would return to the company within eight months. In 2016 Intel’s Data Center Group recorded $17 billion in revenue and the company had to make a “separation payment” of $4.5 million upon her departure (according to an Intel SEC filing).

Ms. Bryant officially left Intel in December last year. She had led the Data Center Group in the role of ‘Group President’ and was key to the company adding cloud computing, virtualization and artificial intelligence (AI) to its priority list. Prior to taking Intel’s Group President role she held Corporate Vice President and Chief Information Officer positions.

Google Cloud engaged Ms. Bryant to compete with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure and to strengthen its ability to provide cloud services to major companies. Potentially, Ms. Bryant could rejoin Intel as CEO to replace Brian Krzanich, who left the position in June after an investigation into a relationship with an Intel employee.
