Google Software on Dell Computers?

May 26, 2006
May 26, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – In an era of unexpected partnerships and cooperation, the latest union has surprised even the most off-beat analysts. Thursday’s announcement that Google and Dell will work together to install Google software on Dell computers has shook a number of foundations, not least that where Microsoft is recognized as the software of choice for major computer manufacturers.

The announcement was made at Goldman Sachs’ Internet conference in Las Vegas by Google executive Dr. Eric Schmidt who joined Google in 2001. In his announcement Dr. Schmidt suggested Google’s search toolbar would be embedded in the screens of new Dell computers. The computers would direct users to a co-branded web page.

Dr. Schmidt suggested this was the first of a number of collaborations planned with Dell, and although he suggested revenues from venture would be shared by the two companies, his announcement did not go further into financial issues. Despite this, many have assumed Dell will receive a fee from Google as part of the agreement.

On announcing the deal Google shares went up $1.74 to $382.99 while Dell shares increased 30 cents to $24.38.
