Hosting, cloud and IT services provider CenturyLink has received official approval for its acquisition of Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Level 3). With headquarters in Monroe, Louisiana, United States, CenturyLink offers a range of services through extensive global fiber networks. These extend to hosting, cloud and IT services, ‘Big Data’ analytics, IT consulting, and global communications. The company's acquisition of Level 3 has been given the go ahead by the Federal Communications Commission in the United States.

Level 3, which has headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, United States, "builds, protects and manages the networks" enterprises need for staff to talk to each other and to their customers. The company's services include data center connectivity, cloud computing, managed services and security solutions. Together the companies will draw on each other's strengths to offer a broader range of services to customers that include government organizations and businesses. The decision comes on the heels of approval from the Department of Justice in the United States and California Public Utilities Commission.

"The FCC's approval of CenturyLink's acquisition of Level 3 is great news and means we now have all the regulatory approvals we need to close the transaction," explained John F. Jones, the Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations at CenturyLink in a press release. "We anticipate closing the transaction effective November 1, 2017."
