Wix is offering a new solution that allows users to "perfect their websites for smartphones". The company, which has headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel and offices in San Francisco, New York and Dnepropetrovsk, offers its 38 million customers a platform that "automatically converts all of a website’s design, content, integrated Apps and ecommerce capabilities into a mobile optimized version".
Once websites are converted, owners can alter their new mobile optimized websites using Wix's WYSIWYG mobile editor. The editor allows users to "change design, hide content, scale and move features" while the desktop versions of their websites remain unchanged.
The solution allows users to tap into what is a growing market of users who access websites through mobile devices like smartphones. Figures in the United States suggest 56% of adults own a smartphone while around 25% of mobile users have purchased items online through their smartphones.
Wix applies a range of industry practices including SEO-friendly single URL structures, single source code, and a "single source of content". The solution ensures that when website owners update the desktop versions of their websites, the mobile versions are also automatically updated.
