Hybrid IT Solutions Provider ViaWest Approved for State of Nevada Data Center Abatement Program
Hybrid IT solutions provider ViaWest has been approved for the State of Nevada’s ‘Data Center Abatement Program’ in the United States. ViaWest, a Shaw Communications Inc. company, offers a range of services including cloud and colocation options alongside compliance and security solutions. The company operates 30 data centers and multiple cloud nodes in North America. By becoming part of the program its customers may be eligible for tax rebates.

The ‘Data Center Abatement Program’ allows those utilizing ViaWest’s data centers in Nevada, Texas, United States to secure “partial abatement from personal property tax and sales”. Customers might be able to receive “an abatement up to 75 percent for personal property and reduction of sales tax to 2 percent” on machinery or equipment purchases going back to July 2016.

“The tax incentives of the Data Center Abatement program in Nevada have the potential to help cut costs dramatically for our clients,” explained ViaWest’s Chief Data Center Officer, Dave Leonard. “Consider an equipment purchase of $150,000. Companies would spend about $12,000 in sales tax under the regular 8 percent tax rate, whereas the abatement reduces the cost to 2 percent, or $3,000. That’s a $9,000 savings on a fairly small buildout so larger deployments could easily save tens of thousands of dollars in taxes.”
