September 24, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Underscoring the increasing popularity of “Cloud Computing”, IBM (http://www.ibm.com/ - NYSE: IBM) has opened four new centers to cater for increased demand for its cloud computing services. Located in Bangalore, India; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Seoul, Korea; and Hanoi, Vietnam, the new centers add to the 13 centers IBM now operates.
Cloud computing allows end users to access computer resources “on-demand”, meaning users pay only for the services (storage, services or applications) they use. IBM’s centers fit the needs of a range of customers, including banking, telecommunications, education, and web hosting companies. As Internet users become more mobile, cloud computing makes Internet-based business operations more cost efficient and effective.
One of IBM’s first Brazilian customers in SOFTEX. "An effective innovation solution requires an information technology (IT) environment that can quickly respond to changes in demand. SOFTEX has chosen IBM cloud computing to help us promote collaboration," the Vice President of SOFTEX, Mr. Arnaldo Bacha, was reported as saying. "IBM Idea Factory accommodates innovation among our employees, customers and partners. It is the first step for SOFTEX to adopt this cutting-edge technology."
In Vietnam, Vietnam Technology and Telecommunications (VNTT) has been one of the first to benefit from IBM’s initiative. "We benefit from this center that provides training, consulting and support," explained VNTT’s Chief Executive Officer, Nguyen Minh Tan. "Cloud computing brings the competitiveness we need in the local market where our customers expect world-class service from us."
"Cloud computing is emerging as a fundamental change in how IT is managed and delivered," added Vice President of IBM High Performance On Demand Solutions, Dr. Willy Chiu. "It is a key element of the evolution to a New Enterprise Data Center, and a powerful tool for efficient operations, especially in growth economies."
