Integrated Network and Technology Solutions Provider Pacnet to Invest in New Singapore Data Center
Integrated network and technology solutions provider Pacnet has announced its intention to invest in the development of an advanced data center in Singapore. The new Tier III data center, which will be launched in the latter part of 2013 (fourth quarter), is estimated to be costing the company US$90 million. The move is designed to meet the City State and region's increased need for advanced data center and managed services, and adds to the company's current 300,000 square feet of data center capacity in 16 cities within the region.

The new data center is an extension of Pacnet's strategy to offer managed services through its facilities and network assets in Asia. The company clearly hopes to tap into what Frost & Sullivan suggest will be a US$550.3 million Singaporean data center services market by 2017.

The carrier neutral facility will be located in Singapore's Paya Lebar (an area in the north-eastern part of Singapore) in an eight-storey, 157,000 square foot location that complies with BCA Green Mark certification standards - a local environmental certification equivalent to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification provided by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It will connect directly to Pacnet’s submarine cable networks.

“As one of the world’s most dynamic economic and financial hubs, Singapore continues to have appetite for data center services, and supply has struggled to keep up,” explained Pacnet's President of Managed Services, Jim Fagan. “This new facility not only provides customers with data center and connectivity services in Singapore, but gives them access to Pacnet’s broad portfolio of managed services, allowing them to interconnect their data requirements throughout Asia.”
