Internet Service Provider MyRepublic Deploys Red Hat Cloud Solutions
Internet Service Provider (ISP) MyRepublic Ltd. (MyRepublic) has deployed a number Red Hat cloud solutions to facilitate its Open Hybrid Cloud initiative. MyRepublic, which has headquarters in Singapore, was established in 2011. The company offers a “personal and people-centric approach” to customers and offers a range of services including an extensive fiber broadband network. It has deployed Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Ceph Storage, and Red Hat CloudForms.

MyRepublic’s initiative represents a scalable and flexible cloud platform designed to replace the company’s former legacy IT infrastructure. The move underscores the company’s recent expansion and enhances its capability to innovate and grow. The new infrastructure offers a reduction in hardware costs and better enables MyRepublic to scale services and handle spikes in user demand. It also offers the capability of re-using spare capacity to resolve outages, an issue MyRepublic found difficult to address using its former legacy infrastructure.

MyRepublic’s cloud is built around Red Hat OpenStack Platform and leverages Red Hat Ceph Storage, a “block and object storage platform”. The cloud also utilizes Red Hat CloudForms hybrid cloud management platform capabilities. The initial stages of the initiative received the support of Red Hat Consulting, enabling deployment to take only two weeks. The new infrastructure offers improved stability and minimizes planned downtime through the automation of a variety of functions. MyRepublic has benefitted from significant ROI as a result of the reallocation of unused resources.

“We chose Red Hat primarily because they are very close to the upstream, so we have access to new features really quickly, and also to avoid any vendor lock-in,” explained MyRepublic’s Group CIO, Eugene Yeo. “Red Hat team’s technical knowledge and documentation saved us valuable time. Even a slight delay in meeting the deadline would have affected our marketing plans in a big way and wasted a lot of our investment. But Red Hat did an amazing job.”
