Equinix, Inc. (Equinix) and managed cloud company Rackspace are collaborating with a view to making hybrid cloud solutions easier for companies to manage. The collaboration sees Rackspace’s cloud services made available through Equinix’s data centers. Services will initially be made available through Microsoft Azure via Rackspace and available through the Equinix Cloud Exchange platform in Chicago, Dallas, and Washington, D.C., USA. Expansion of the service for EMEA and Asian Pacific countries is in the pipeline.
Equinix is a data center company that “connects the world's leading businesses to their customers, employees and partners”. The company operates in “33 markets worldwide” offering a range of data center services. Rackspace’s cloud services will be made available through Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in North America. The company will offer access to Rackspace’s data centers through “direct cross connects” and the Equinix Cloud Exchange.
The collaboration aims to offer Rackspace customers access to the “full benefits of hybrid and multi-cloud solutions” by offering access to key cloud service providers “in a secure and high-performing environment”. Equinix’s customers will also be able to “add Rackspace managed services to their hybrid or multi-cloud deployments”.
"Today's cloud applications require higher performance than ever before,” explained Equinix’s Chief Development Officer, Mark Adams. “Together with Rackspace, we are making it easier for customers to access and deploy the cloud infrastructure that makes the most sense for them. RackConnect Global inside Equinix will give our customers new hosted cloud services, and Rackspace customers will benefit from access to any cloud provider on the Cloud Exchange, thus making multi-cloud a reality."
