The
IOEMA Project, which is deploying a 1,600-kilometer subsea fiber optic cable across Northern Europe, has selected
Greenhouse Datacenters as an additional landing partner in Scheveningen (Rotterdam/The Hague). This will serve as IOEMA’s second landing point in the Netherlands—after Eemshaven—and its seventh in Northern Europe.
The IOEMA cable will directly connect the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Norway, with potential extensions to France under consideration. Built to be AI-ready and fully armored for security, the system is designed to deliver high-capacity, resilient connectivity while reducing exposure to international tensions and subsea risks. IOEMA is also exploring the integration of SMART sensors, which could make it the first SMART subsea cable in Northern Europe.
Strategic Benefits of Greenhouse Partnership
Located just 12 km from the Scheveningen landing site, Greenhouse Datacenters offers direct proximity to major connectivity partners, including AMS-IX, Lumen, Delta Fiber, Odido, DCspine, Eurofiber, and Relined.
“By partnering with Greenhouse Datacenters, IOEMA connects directly into a rich connectivity ecosystem, including an on-site AMS-IX PoP,” said Eckhard Bruckschen, CTO of IOEMA Fibre Ltd. “This makes the IOEMA cable accessible to a broader market in South Holland and beyond, offering ultra-fast, redundant, and AI-ready connections to hubs across Northern Europe.”
Strengthening the Dutch Digital Economy
Greenhouse Datacenters CEO Ruben van der Zwan emphasized the broader impact:
“The arrival of new submarine cables is critical for the Netherlands’ digital business climate and economic competitiveness. The IOEMA landing at Greenhouse goes beyond connectivity—it strengthens data sovereignty, resilience, and positions South Holland as a strategic alternative to the Amsterdam data center market.”
A New AI-Driven Corridor
Industry leaders highlight the significance of this development:
Rick Pijpers, Strategic Advisor, PWDR.AI: “A data center landing station becomes a gateway for international data traffic, attracting ecosystems of carriers, cloud providers, and enterprises. With IOEMA, Greenhouse creates a new sovereign AI corridor linking AI hubs across Northern Europe with Rotterdam, The Hague, and Brussels.”
Peter van Burgel, CEO of AMS-IX: “The IOEMA landing will bring enormous volumes of international traffic to Greenhouse, while the AMS-IX PoP ensures direct exchange with global and regional networks. This delivers speed, redundancy, and cost efficiency, reinforcing South Holland as a hub for AI-driven growth.”
