June Industry News In Review!

Despite competing with football's World Cup and a number of other less important world events, June offered plenty of web hosting related news and activity. It was a month when 'WSXHosting.com announced a website and domain name change and MaximumASP got ahead of the curve by offering 'Longhorn' beta 2 and IIS 7.0 hosting. It was also a month that saw celebrations at BlueHost who celebrated catering for their 150,000th domain name since inception. Celebrations also at INetU, ranked most reliable managed web hosting company in May, at Thawte, Inc. who gained 15 new partners, and NaviSite who 'renewed and expanded' its connection with Berkshire Property Advisors, LLC. June was also a month when some hosts went green - California design firm offered renewable energy web hosting solutions and Blogpire productions got into 'renewable energy credits'. Inevitably, as HostingCon 2006 draws closer it began hitting the news, one example being the announcement that, control panel software provider cPanel Inc. had announced their presence at HostingCon 2006.

A couple of partnerships also took place in June'BliksemHosting.com and DemoWolf announced they would team up, and WingSix and Share Results decided to get together. Web.com signed an agreement with Encore and a US branding firm chose SolidSpace for a range of services. Like most months there were a number of hosts who upgraded plan resources during June; WebHostingBuzz.com announced a number of upgrades, reseller Zoom added SWsoft SiteBuilder, Intermedia.NET increased dedicated Exchange hosting disk space, Host Depot upgraded to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, GlobalDomainSupport.com added TippingPoint and Bonphire decided to improve web security. 101SiteHosting.com also got in on the act by Increasing disk space, Gazzin.com announced a server hardware upgrade, and WebFaction introduced a new control panel.

Plenty of new plans and products emerging in June'HostGator added Php 5 and MySql 5 support to all Shared Hosting plans, Easyspace offered 40+ 'Rapidsite' templates,
Server Intellect announced Web QuickStart, and Sheer Web Host offered Cart32 ecommerce support. In addition, Relio launched ASP.NET 2.0 support, XPC Technology Services announced the Xen VPS service, Gearworx decided to offer ColdFusion MX 7, and 'SuperPage.com offered a new wbsite development solution. Ruby on Rails maintained its momentum, with IPOWER announcing ROR support. In addition, Network Redux announced Xen VPS offerings, Ubiquity plumbed for shell web hosting with .NET framework, 1&1 Internet announced updated SPAM protection alongside a map and driving directions product.

A few people on the move in June, including Mr. Tim Uzzanti, former CrystalTech CEO who moved to SmarterTools Inc. There were, however, plenty of expansions occurring'
'KnownHost upgraded its data center, Host Gator opened a Canadian office and Gigenet, the parent body of web hosting brands ColoQuest, GigeServers and DDoSProtection.com,' announced a new data center. Key acquisition news in June was that of 4Domains, Inc. who consolidated 4 acquisitions. On the dedicated server and VPS front, Rackspace expanded its Enterprise managed hosting offering with HP ProLiant servers, Got Web Host offered value dedicated servers, CrystalTech launched low cost Linux dedicated hosting plans, and InetServices introduced 'unmetered' servers.

A bit of news on the tutorials front in June, DemoDemo announced a 'Custom Order Form Tour' while DemoWolf.com offerd web hosting providers 'voice tutorials'. Nothing though compared to the number of promotions in June - AIT offered a 30-day service trial in June, while CrystalTech offered a new sales promotion and Hostway made a splash by honoring local high school students. British web hosting provider Active 24 also did some good through its 'Youth Inclusion Project' coinciding with the world cup.'

A number of hosts and their people got awards in June. 1&1 Internet decided to take its affiliates off to Spain while UpStream Networks became a Windows Media Certified Hosting Provider. In addition, Verio UK made it big with a 6-million-pound contract from the British government. Hats off to the companies that did their bit to defeat spam and other malicious practices. HostMySite helped combat spam with couple of initiatives and Go Daddy took some measures to improve security.

All in all, another excellent month in the world of web hosting.
