Managed cloud company
Rackspace has announced plans to acquire managed services and cloud consulting company Onica. The news comes on the heels of Kevin M. Jones joining the San Antonio, Texas-based company earlier this year. Established in 1998, Rackspace provides a range of services and leverages solutions provided by Alibaba, AWS, Google, Microsoft, OpenStack, Oracle, SAP and VMware to offer customers bespoke managed services. The acquisition will enhance its AWS Managed Cloud capability by bringing “Onica’s innovative professional services capabilities” to the company.
Onica is a “full-spectrum integrator” that helps “hundreds of companies realize the value, efficiency, and productivity of the cloud.” With headquarters in Santa Monica, California, United States, it offers cloud consulting and managed services that help “businesses enable, operate, and innovate on the cloud”. As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN) Premier Consulting Partner and AWS Managed Services provider, the company specializes in AWS services. Its offerings extend to ‘Big Data’, cloud migration, security, compliance, and Internet of Things (IoT) options. Financial aspects of the deal were not released, but it was announced Onica’s “strategic advisory, architecture and engineering and application development” will be absorbed by Rackspace. Completion is expected before the New Year.
