Managed Hosting Provider Rackspace Goes Green

June 13, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Managed hosting provider Rackspace is going green, it was announced recently. The company is putting its weight behind the fight on global warming with an in-company program designed to reduce energy usage. The company’s “GreenSpace” program will provide Rackspace staff with education programs about the environment and recycling. The company will also invest in renewable energy projects through a partnership with NativeEnergy - a provider of renewable energy credits and carbon offset certificates.

Rackspace will invest in projects such as the Owl Feather War Bonnet Wind Farm project that is designed to provide the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, USA with wind turbine power. Rackspace will receive carbon credits in return for the investment.

"Enterprise computing is a major contributor to global energy consumption and carbon emissions," suggested Rackspace’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr. John Engates. "Therefore, we believe it is Rackspace's responsibility as a web hosting provider to tackle environmental responsibility on our end."

Rackspace is based in San Antonio, USA and provides server management for around 10,000 customers through eight of it own data centers.
