October 13, 2010 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – ServInt
, a pioneering provider of managed web hosting for businesses worldwide, today announced it has been nominated for the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s (NVTC) Green Award for 2010.
Green Awards recognize area technology companies, universities and organizations that are making an impact on the region through top-notch environmental practices. Now in its second year, the NVTC Green Awards honor one large (more than $50 million revenue) and one small (less than $50 million revenue) company, university or organization. ServInt is one of seven nominees in the award’s Small Company category. NVTC will recognize the nominees and announce the winners during its annual TechCelebration banquet October 19th.
This nomination recognizes ServInt’s industry-leading Green Hosting Initiative, which was launched in 2008. Through the Initiative, ServInt has earned a worldwide reputation as one of the web-hosting industry’s most environmentally conscientious companies.
The Initiative has included the investment of millions of dollars in energy-efficient computer hardware, reforestation programs, and environmentally sound equipment-disposal and recycling programs. As part of the Initiative, ServInt makes exclusive use of low-voltage Dell server hardware to ensure low per-capita energy consumption through efficient virtualization. The hardware provides high performance, while operating with a smaller carbon footprint.
ServInt’s method of virtualization improves energy efficiency via the decommissioning of unnecessary physical servers and higher utilization of the remaining, more energy-efficient servers. To further reduce its carbon footprint, ServInt also implements a fully capable telecommuting program.
“In just two years, the NVTC Green Awards has become one of the region’s most prestigious awards programs, recognizing excellence in environmental stewardship. We are honored to be nominated for this year’s award,” said ServInt Founder and Chief Executive Officer Reed Caldwell.
Caldwell added, “We take our environmental responsibility very seriously. Many of our competitors choose to build mammoth, wasteful, resource-intensive data centers in the middle of nowhere. By building our network in major cities, we have greater control over lowering the power footprint of each customer. Through our Green Hosting Initiative, we help ourselves, our customers and the planet.”
NVTC is the membership association for the technology community in Northern Virginia. NVTC has approximately 1,000 member companies representing more than 200,000 employees. Its membership includes companies from all sectors of the technology industry, as well as universities, foreign embassies, non-profit organizations and government agencies.
