Managed Hosting Provider ViaWest Joins NCWIT’s Workforce & Entrepreneurial Alliances

April 29, 2011
April 29, 2011 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – ViaWest, a leading provider of colocation and managed services, announced on Wednesday its active involvement with the National Center for Women In Technology (NCWIT), a coalition of over 250 prominent corporations, academic institutions, government agencies, and non-profits working to increase the participation of girls and women in computing and IT. ViaWest is a founding member of the Entrepreneurial Alliance and an active member of the Workforce Alliance. The company’s COO and Co-founder Nancy Phillips serves on NCWIT’s Board of Directors.

The Workforce Alliance (WA) is comprised of distinguished organizations such as ViaWest, Microsoft, Google, Intel, Wal-Mart, and Apple working together to learn what works best to recruit, retain, and advance technical women in corporate environments.

The Entrepreneurial Alliance (EA) has a similar mission increasing the prevalence and success of entrepreneurship among women in the United States. NCWIT’s Entrepreneurial Alliance is comprised of fourteen founding member companies including ViaWest, AppliedTrust, Geomagic, Get Satisfaction, Gowalla, Lijit, Memeo, Oblong Industries, Return Path, SendGrid, Standing Cloud, Swiftpage, TaskRabbit, and Twilio. On April 20th, NCWIT announced that the Alliance is partnering with the White House Startup America campaign to ensure that high-tech startups have the research, practices, and community necessary to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive technical culture.

“I am extremely proud of ViaWest’s involvement and support of NCWIT,” said Nancy Phillips. “Inspiring women to choose careers in IT results in a larger and more competitive workforce and ensures companies develop technology as broad and creative as the people it serves. Every company in America stands to benefit.”

“NCWIT helps growing tech companies plug into the movement to increase women’s participation in tech creator roles,” said Lucy Sanders, NCWIT CEO and Co-Founder. “NCWIT will work with the Startup America Partnership on the national level to make sure that technical startups receive the resources they need to successfully recruit, retain, and advance women in a way that enhances innovation and business.”
