Managed Service Provider Online Adopts IBM Power Systems for Bare Metal Clouds
Managed service provider Online has adopted IBM Power Systems for bare metal clouds. The company, which was established in 1999, has headquarters in Paris and is part of the ILIAD Group. It bills itself as “one of the leading web hosting providers in France” and alongside its cloud offerings provides a wide range of services including web hosting, virtual private servers, databases, dedicated servers, and DDOS protection.

Online now operates IBM Power Systems at its three data centers to extend the service capabilities of customers who “want to increase the performance of their bare metal servers in the cloud”. Bare metal servers are dedicated to a single customer and delivered via the cloud. Online is leveraging its use of IBM POWER8 S822L servers to attract new customers to its services and its allows Online to support more bare metal customers at reduced costs. Power S822L servers can “support 1.87 times more MariaDB transactions per minute per core at 40% lower cost” which compared to other x86-based servers.

"With IBMs POWER8-based servers, we can increase our levels of service to clients seeking a dedicated cloud platform alternative to x86 servers," explained Online’s Team Leader, Sébastien Cassier. "We wanted to approach the business differently than in the past. The dedicated bare metal Power Systems running Linux differentiate us from other service providers because we can now say that our clients have the opportunity to run the most powerful servers in the world in a native environment for their business needs."
