Basefarm has acquired ‘Big Data’ and cloud services provider ‘The unbelievable Machine Company’ (*um). Basefarm, which has headquarters in Oslo, Norway, was established in 2000. The company offers a broad range of services including application management and hybrid cloud solutions alongside collocation. It also offers “fully managed solutions on private and public cloud platforms”. Basefarm owns and operates its own data centers which include “Oslo's biggest and greenest data center”. Basefarm’s acquisition of *um enables the company to become a “leading European player”. Financial aspects of the deal were not released.
*um is the “leading service provider for cloud and managed cloud services in Germany and Austria”. With headquarters in Berlin, Germany, the company was established in 2008. It specializes in ‘Big Data’ (with a focus in data science and data engineering) and cloud-based offerings. Prior to the acquisition it had 120 employees in Berlin and Vienna, Austria. Its customers include the German Postal Service (Deutsche Post). While Basefarm’s target customers are in the Nordic regions and the Netherlands, its acquisition of *um extends its presence in Germany and Austria. Together the two companies will generate around €100 million ($112 million) in revenues this year.

Just like at Basefarm, the *um team has focused on their customers’ success, as well as on the people at the center of the company’s development. This goes hand in hand with the Basefarm culture, so I believe this is a perfect match.”
