Managed Services Provider Rackspace Completes Acquisition of Cloud, Managed Hosting and Colocation Services Provider Datapipe
Managed services provider Rackspace has completed its acquisition of cloud, managed hosting and colocation services provider Datapipe. With head offices in Windcrest, Texas, United States, Rackspace offers a range of services that leverage the AWS, Google, Microsoft, OpenStack, VMware and Alibaba cloud platforms, amongst others. The company specializes in helping customers benefit from cloud computing without having to burden prohibitive costs and complexity. News of its acquisition of Datapipe broke in September of this year and the deal is recognized as being the largest in the industry's history.

Datapipe, which has head offices in New Jersey, United States, offers a range of managed services across public and private clouds. These services extend to managed hosting and colocation which are made available through the company's data center network which features facilities within the United States and globally - 29 data centers in nine countries. Alongside a presence in the United Kingdom, Datapipe has a connection with China’s Alibaba Cloud. Rackspace's acquisition enhances its capabilities as "the world’s leading provider of managed hosting and private cloud solutions".

Datapipe will be absorbed by Rackspace through a transition process that has been planned so it "maintains and enhances support levels for customers". A number of Datapipe staff are becoming Rackspace executives including Joel Friedman (Chief Technology Officer of Rackspace); Dan Newton (Senior Vice President, Account Management and Service Delivery); and Dan Tudahl (General Manager, Government Solutions).

“This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to become the world’s number one provider in IT as a service,” explained the CEO of Rackspace, Joe Eazor. “Datapipe brings important new capabilities to Rackspace that will enable us to better serve customers, globally and at scale. Together, we will build on the industry leadership both companies established in expertise, reliability, security and support, to create a new level of end-to-end customer experience.”
