BCC Research has suggested the market for cloud computing optical systems and componentry will “almost treble in five years”. The company, an arm of Eli Research which has headquarters in Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA, publishes “technology market research reports, reviews, and technical newsletters” and provides “custom research” services. Its report suggests that in 2014 the cloud market will value at $1.0 billion, rising to $1.2 billion in 2015. The report also suggests the market will grow to $3.1 billion by 2020 with an “annual growth rate of 20.7% between 2015 and 2020”.
The report, Optical Components and Systems for Cloud Computing (PHO020A), considers global markets by “component, system, application, and geography” while analyzing “market sizes, value chains, product trends, and the competitive landscape” with “data from 2014, estimates for 2015, and projections of CAGRs through 2020”. The report suggests the increase in public, private or hybrid clouds will be driven by an increased number of small businesses utilizing cloud solutions. As demand for cloud computing increases, there will be greater need for “optical systems and components”. The largest market segment, optical network terminals, is likely to reach a value of $412.2 million in 2015 and $867.8 million in 2020. The fastest growing segment, optical amplifiers, will reach $47.3 million in 2015 and $216.2 million in 2020.
“Optical systems and components are integral parts of the Cloud computing system,” explained Sinha G. Gaurav, a BCC Research analyst. “With the gradual advent of Cloud computing systems, the usage of the optical components has increased rapidly in the past few years,” says “The passive optical network (PON) is one of the most popularly used systems in Cloud computing. In addition, with rapid urbanization and usage of Cloud computing in information and technology, the demand for optical systems is expected to increase rapidly.”
