Michal Pěchouček has joined free antivirus protection provider
Avast. Avast, which has headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic, was established in 1988. The company is a household name and has offices in the United States, Europe, China, and Japan. It specializes in computer security software and offers a free antivirus that protects millions of PCs, Macs, and mobile phones globally. The company also offers email, network, and business security software. Mr. Pechoucek moves into the company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO) position.
Mr. Pěchouček was formerly a full-time Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Department of Computer Science and the Artificial Intelligence Center of the Czech Technical University (CTU). He starts his new position on September 1, 2019. His contribution to computer science and AI research has given him global recognition. He was instrumental in setting up CTU’s ‘AVAST Chair of Cybersecurity’ and the jointly financed CTU and Avast AI ‘Cybersecurity Laboratory’. His work in academia will bring a fresh perspective to the area and he will work alongside other AI scientists in a bid to determine how AI can address complex cyber threats. He will continue to manage CTU’s ‘AI Center’ on a part-time basis.
