Microsoft Outlines Strategy for Dynamic IT

July 6, 2007
July 7, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – The opening keynote for Tech Ed 2007 saw Bob Muglia, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President of Server and Tools, outline a strategy he dubbed “Dynamic IT”. The strategy involves an approach to enabling end users to lower costs and increase IT value though new web media and ultimately improving the customer experience.

The keynote set the stage for the introduction of Internet Information Services 7.0, the latest version of Microsoft’s web hosting and application/services development solution that has been added to the Server Core installation option of Microsoft Windows Server 2008. IIS7 offers end users a modular web server, expanded application hosting, and streamlined infrastructure management that is likely to require fewer updates.

IIS7 also allows administrators to xcopy sites and applications onto servers and provides management delegation to site owners. The system offers an intuitive GUI and inclusion of FastCGI enables hosting of a wide range of applications, including PHP. IIS7 is less expensive than previous versions and provides enhanced security.
