Microsoft Singapore Signs Extended Contract with Clean Energy Solutions Provider Sunseap Group
Microsoft Singapore has signed an extended contract with clean energy solutions provider Sunseap Group. Microsoft, which has headquarters in Redmond, Washington, United States, has a broad global presence with local entities worldwide, of which Microsoft Singapore is one example. Microsoft does business in 170 countries and has a firm commitment to renewable energy with the goal of moving towards 50% of its global data centers being powered by renewable energy. Microsoft Singapore has signed a 20-year deal with Sunseap Group to power its data centers in the city state.

Microsoft is meeting its timeline regarding renewable energy, and its latest solar project will bring its “total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to 860 megawatts". Its agreement with the Sunseap Group will see the company purchase 100% of its renewable energy from Sunseap Group. Microsoft’s Singapore data centers provide Microsoft cloud services like Office 365 and Microsoft Azure.

"This deal is Microsoft's first renewable energy deal in Asia, and is our third international clean energy announcement, following two wind deals announced in Ireland and The Netherlands in 2017," explained Microsoft’s General Manager for Cloud Infrastructure Strategy and Architecture, Christian Belady. "Our cloud services are helping to power Singapore's digital transformation, and today's agreement will ensure that transformation is increasingly powered by clean energy," added Microsoft Singapore’s Managing Director, Kevin Wo.
