Network management, security and solution services provider NTT Communications Corporation (
NTT Com) plans to buy two cloud computing companies based in the United States, a number of reports suggest.
The Japanese company, a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph, intends to purchase Virtela Technology Services Inc., a managed network, security, and cloud services company based in Denver, Colorado. Details regarding NTT Com's second US target are less clear, although a figure of 100 Billion Yen, or US$1 Billion, has been suggested as a combined total for both of NTT Com's intended purchases.
NTT Com policy to solidify its position in the global cloud services arena has been underscored by a number of key purchases. The company owns and manages data centers in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom and has a stated objective of replacing its declining voice services revenue by increasing cloud services income to above 200 Billion Yen (US$2 Billion) by March 2016.
