OnApp has announced a partnership with
StarWind Software Inc., and a new way for hosting providers to add affordable, high availability storage to their clouds. Storage can be a significant hurdle for hosting providers moving into the cloud. While high-end storage products offer the resilience needed for cloud hosting, they can be prohibitively expensive for the hosting mass market. Through the partnership, OnApp’s cloud hosting customers can deploy high availability StarWind SAN products free for one year, followed by a low monthly license fee.
OnApp’s cloud engine software enables hosting providers to deploy clouds on commodity hardware, and manage cloud resources, failover, users and billing through a simple point-and-click interface. StarWind SAN software turns any 64-bit or 32-bit Windows server into a fail-safe, fault-tolerant, high availability SAN. Together, OnApp and StarWind give hosting providers a cost-effective way to solve the cloud storage dilemma.

Through the partnership, OnApp customers are entitled to a free one-year license for StarWind Enterprise HA 16TB or Unlimited TB editions, for up to two servers, which equates to a full replicated SAN. Beyond the first two servers or the first year, OnApp customers can purchase StarWind’s HA 16TB or Unlimited TB editions for a low monthly fee, instead of the usual annual license fee.
